Read every mark
From now on, every letter in a word has a mark that tells you its sound. Read letter by letter, then join them: عَ + لِ + مَ = عَلِمَ ('a-li-ma).
Same letters, different vowels
One mark can change the meaning: كَتَبَ 'he wrote', كُتِبَ 'it was written'.
