    Privacy Policy

Ilm of Islam is made for children and families, so we collect as little as we can. This page explains what we keep, why, and who sees it.

    Last updated: Nov. 1, 2026

    Learning without an account

You can use every lesson, dua and prayer guide without signing up. Your settings (colours and language), a guest's lesson progress and your Hifz progress are saved only in your own browser. We do not receive them.

    Parent accounts and child profiles

A parent account stores a username, a name, an email address, the language, Qur'an script and time zone you choose, and a password, which we keep only in hashed form. We email you only about your account and your child's classes (reminders, changes, password links).

Each child profile stores a first name or nickname, an avatar, optionally the year of birth and whether the child is a boy or a girl, and the child's progress in lessons and stories. If you give a child their own login, we keep a username and the PIN in hashed form. We never ask children for an email address, phone number, photo, address or location.

    Live classes with a teacher

When your child studies with a teacher on the site, we also keep the class plan and times, the meeting link, the absences you report, and the teacher's progress marks and notes. Only you and your child's teacher can see them; a note the teacher keeps private is seen only by the teacher. A teacher can add a child and create the parent's account; you then choose your own password and decide whether to accept the class plan. There is no messaging between teachers and children on the site.

    Class requests and teacher applications

When you ask for a class we keep the details on the form: your name, email, phone (optional), country and time zone, and the student's first name, age, level and the times that suit you. When a teacher applies we keep their contact details, languages, qualifications and availability.

We use these details only to arrange classes. We share a class request only with the teacher we match you with, and only what they need to teach. We never sell your details or use them for advertising.

    Mistake reports

When you report a mistake we keep your report, the page and the text it is about, and your name and email if you give them (both optional). We use them only to check and correct the content and, if you ask, to reply.

To keep out spam, our forms count how many times each connection sends them, for up to an hour. The connection's address is kept only in a scrambled form, and only for that hour.

    Cookies

We use only the cookies the site needs: one to keep you signed in, one to protect forms, one to remember the language you chose, and one to remember the Qur'an script you chose. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.

    Other services the page loads

    • Spoken letters and words are made by a text-to-speech service. Only lesson text is sent to it, never anything about you.
    • Recite mode in Hifz uses your browser's own speech recognition, and only after you agree. Chrome sends your voice to Google, Safari to Apple and Edge to Microsoft to turn it into text. Your voice never reaches us and we keep no recordings.

    Children's privacy (COPPA)

The site is made for children, so we follow the rules for children's privacy, including the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA):

    • Children do not sign up. A parent creates the account and adds each child, or a teacher the parent asked for adds the child and the parent then signs in and confirms. Children under 13 use the site only through a parent's account.
    • We collect only what a child needs to learn: the details listed above. Nothing about a child is shown publicly, used for advertising or sold, and it is shared only with the child's own teacher.
    • A parent can see what we keep about their child on the family dashboard, correct it, and stop us collecting more at any time.
    • A parent can delete a child and everything we keep about them at any time, under Family → More, or ask us to do it.

How long we keep it, and your choices

We keep account data while the account is open, and class requests and teacher applications for as long as we need them to arrange or run classes. You can ask us to show you, correct or delete your data, or a child's profile, at any time. We reply as soon as we can, and within 30 days at the latest.

    Contact us about your data.
