Guide us to the straight path
The dua of Al-Faatiḥah: guidance, a straight path, and Allah's blessing.
Word by word
ihdinā: guide us. Root ه د ي (guidance: hudā, hidāyah).
al-mustaqīm: straight, upright. Root ق و م (to stand: qiyām, iqāmah).
an'amta: You have blessed. Root ن ع م (ni'mah, a blessing).
Notice the root ق و م: the same letters as qiyām, the standing in the prayer, and iqāmah, the call that starts the prayer. Standing straight in prayer, we ask for a straight path.
