Calling people to Islam

First in secret, then openly, the Prophet ﷺ invited people to worship Allah alone, and stayed patient when they hurt him.

For about three years the Prophet ﷺ invited people quietly. Among the first Muslims were Khadijah, his friend Abu Bakr, his young cousin 'Ali and Zayd ibn Harithah. Then Allah told him to call openly, and he stood on the hill of Safa and invited the people of Makkah.

Many leaders of Makkah refused and hurt the Muslims. Bilal, a slave, was tortured in the hot sun but kept saying Ahad, Ahad (One, One). The Muslims stayed patient and kind.

Allah told the Prophet ﷺ to begin by warning his closest relatives.
