🌙 Prophets and Seerah · Step 33 of 41

The year of sorrow and Ta'if

The Prophet ﷺ lost Khadijah and his uncle Abu Talib, was hurt in Ta'if, and still answered with mercy.

In the tenth year of prophethood, Khadijah and Abu Talib, who had protected the Prophet ﷺ, both died. It was called the Year of Sorrow. The Prophet ﷺ went to the town of Ta'if to invite its people, but they mocked him and children threw stones at him until his feet bled.

The angel of the mountains came and offered to crush the people of Ta'if between two mountains. The Prophet ﷺ said: “No. I hope that Allah will bring from their descendants people who worship Allah alone, without partners.”

📚 Aisha · Sahih al-Bukhari 3231; Sahih Muslim 1795

Even when he was hurt, the Prophet ﷺ chose mercy. Later, the people of Ta'if became Muslims.
