🏮 Ramadan and the Islamic year · Step 6 of 10

Eid al-Fitr

The day of joy after Ramadan: zakat al-fitr, the Eid prayer, takbeer and visiting family.

The Prophet ﷺ made zakat al-fitr obligatory, a sa' of dates or a sa' of barley, on every Muslim, young or old, and ordered that it be given before the people go out to the Eid prayer.

📚 Ibn 'Umar · Sahih al-Bukhari 1503

Families give zakat al-fitr for every member, so the poor can celebrate Eid too.

The Prophet ﷺ would not go out on the day of Eid al-Fitr until he had eaten some dates, and he ate an odd number.

📚 Anas ibn Malik · Sahih al-Bukhari 953

Sunnahs of Eid
