🌙 Prophets and Seerah · Step 34 of 41
Al-Isra' and al-Mi'raj
A night journey from Makkah to Jerusalem and up through the heavens, where the five daily prayers were given.
The night journey
Glory be to the One who took His servant by night from al-Masjid al-Haram to al-Masjid al-Aqsa, to show him some of His signs.
After the Year of Sorrow, Allah honoured the Prophet ﷺ with a miraculous journey. In one night he was taken to Jerusalem, where he led the prophets in prayer, and then up through the heavens. There Allah gave the Muslims the prayer: first fifty, then reduced to five, with the reward of fifty.
The five prayers were made obligatory on the night of the Mi'raj: five in number, fifty in reward.
