Meem saakin
A meem with sukoon has three rules: hidden before ب, merged into another م, and clear before all other letters.
Three rules
| Rule | Next letter | How |
|---|---|---|
Ikhfa shafawi (hiding with the lips) | ب | Lips close gently, ghunnah two counts |
Idgham shafawi (merging) | م | The two meems become one, with ghunnah |
Izhar shafawi (clear) | All other letters | A clear meem, no ghunnah; take special care before و and ف |
Listen
Ikhfa shafawi: meem before ب.
Idgham shafawi: meem into meem.
Izhar shafawi: a clear meem before د.
